Welcome to SHARKS Swim
We had an awsome swim season this year. Thanks to our Wonderful coaches, Dave Lassiter, Katy Mankin and Sam Ellis we were undefeated!

We had over 80 best times and less DQ’s than any year prior. Our team has become a great group of swimmers and friends and we look forward to continuing our winning momentum and growth next year.

I would like to thank all the parent volunteers, coaches and swimmers for making this such a great year. It takes everyone to make the swimmers into a TEAM and we have succeded in doing this over the past year or two. THANK YOU!

Have a great winter and see you at the pool
Michelle Jafari

Welcome back to all of our returning swimmers. We would like to welcome any new SHRA members to come and join our outstanding swimmers and terrific team.

Our team includes individuals from all ages as well abilities. Practice times are arranged by age group; however our coaches may ask swimmer(s) to attend different practice times based on abilities.

For the youngest swimmers just starting out, we have the very popular Minnows Program. As long as your child is comfortable in the water and is able to participate in a group setting; he/she is welcome to join the Minnows. Additional coaches are hired for these practices in order to try give as much individualized attention as possible. Our Minnows did a great job last year and we expect many of them to be the rising stars of the SHRA Shark's.

The summer swimming season is short; only 6 weeks. For the team to do its best, we need every swimmer from June 14th through June 25th. Please try to schedule vacations and other activities after this time frame - your team needs you!

Swim Team Philosophy

The Sleepy Hollow Recreation Association (SHRA) swim team is a family-oriented team with the primary goal of providing swimmers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to have a great summer swimming experience emphasizing fun and fundamentals. The involvement of parents in the activities of the team is expected - since we feel that parental involvement and support is essential to the success of the individual swimmer and the team as a whole.

The coaching staff at SHRA believes that every successful swimmer has a love for the sport of swimming. The coaches nurture this philosophy by developing each swimmer at their own pace and constantly work to help swimmers enhance all four competitive strokes, improve racing technique, build self-confidence, become good team members, and learn that winning and succeeding are not always the same thing.

    Swim Meets

The more experienced competitive swimmers participate in the Saturday morning "A" meets. The developmental "B" meets on Monday nights are a chance for all SHRA swimmers to compete, improve their stroke techniques and times.

If you are not available for a Saturday meet, please inform the coaches no later than the Wednesday morning before that meet. For Monday night meets, you must complete a yellow entry card for all events you wish to participate in. You may pick up the cards at the front desk.

    Gear

Swimmers must wear the Shark's team swimsuit and SHRA swim cap for all meets. SHRA team suits will be available for purchase on line through swim exchange. Swim Exchange orders should be made through the link on the SHRA web site so SHRA receives credit for those orders. Everything from our new Shark Attack suit to goggles, fins and clothing can be purchased through this link.

In addition to a swim suit, every swimmer should bring a pair of goggles, flippers, a towel and a t-shirt to all practices and meets (SHRA shirts should be worn for meets). You might also consider buying flip flops, a sweat suit (for cool days), a swim cap (required for hair longer than ones ears), a hat for protection from the sun, water bottle and a bag to carry everything.

Put your name on everything you bring to the pool, that includes suits, towels, goggles - everything!

    Volunteers

We expect each parent to volunteer for at least 3 meets in addition to helping with the fun events that make the SHRA Shark's a great place to spend the summer.

We are in need of several chair persons for a variety of volunteer roles (social, team breakfast, computers, volunteers, pictures, officials and more), most positions don't need training and are a great way to meet other families, have fun, and help the team in the process.

We expect each parent to volunteer for at least 3 meets in addition to helping with the fun events that make the SHRA Shark's a great place to spend the summer.

There are several Officials clinics at the start of the season, see the calendar for more information. Regardless of where you volunteer, you will always be able to watch your child swim. Contact swimrep@shrasharks.org to sign up!
